Just want to say Hi to everyone...Smile I haven't posted on the forums before, so thought I should introduce myself...

I'm 47 & was diagnosed last year with ra, & poss. sjogren's, but the dr. couldn't confirm sjogren's because my eyes were too sensitive to take the test with strips.

My main ra meds are mtx, folic acid, plaquenil. I take Tylex, & amitryptiline for the pain, amongst other meds.

Hoping to learn some new tips, and need some help to know...what pains I should put up with, and which pains require treatment...so difficult in the early stages when you don't know what to expect...

I will have a look through the ra posts and if I can't find the answers...I'll post a question...

Thanks guys for your help in advance...Jan

Hey Jan!

Lovely to be able to welcome you to the friendly NRAS forum.
I am Jenni and have severe RA. I am 35. Married. 3 kiddies (2 adopted teens and 1 birth child who is almost 4) and that makes me sound very boring indeed... I'm a bit of a live wire really...!

Have a try with hot and cold treatments for your hands- I have this wax manicure bath that I got from Amazon.

It does help.

Hi Jan

Welcome to the forum. A great place to be for support and information; lots of folk, lots of knowledge and a wealth of tried and tested experiences! Glad you have found us and NRAS!

I'm Lyn, married to Mike, we have four 'kidults' Abby 23, Ian and Jake 18, and Louis 17. We live in Thornton Cleveleys in north west Lancashire. I was diagnosed with RA over 23 years ago and have since run the gauntlet of medication and had several surgical procedures along the way. Currently on Prednisolone, Methotrexate and Naproxen, (been on anti-tnf for 8 years but just stopped due to lack of efficacy, being assessed for Rituximab) and a wagon load of pain killers and other bits and pieces! But heyho...

Keep posting and reading Jan ... ThumpUp

Hi Jan
Welcome to the forum.
I too am 47 and recently diagnosed (August 2011). I have RA and Raynaud's phenomenon. My consultant also suspects another autoimmune disorder and is still doing tests. As well as joint pain and stiffness I have had very systemic symptoms including problems with my eyes, skin, digestion and muscle weakness. I am currently on steroids, methotrexate, naproxen, lansoprazole, nifedipine, folic acid, calcium, tramadol and co-codamol. I am struggling to come to terms with it all so will understand if you feel like this too. I work part-time (having reduced from full time due to this illness).
I look forward to hearing more from you on this forum in the future.
Best wishes from Naomi.
